2月23日，北京大学国际法学院发布讣闻：该院图书馆顾问馆长、信息服务中心副院长，法学教授Duncan Alford于美国时间2月18日去世，享年59岁。
Duncan Alford教授曾在维吉尼亚大学和南卡罗莱纳州大学法学院就读，并在北卡罗莱纳州大学法学院获得J.D.学位。他曾担任北卡罗莱纳州最高法院总法官Burley Mitchell的书记官、某律师事务所股东、哥伦比亚大学咨询馆员、普林斯顿大学法律图书馆员和欧盟专家、乔治敦大学信息主管和副教授，和夏洛特法学院图书馆和信息服务中心创院副院长。他是法理搜索方面的学者和《教学法研究》作者。
Duncan Alford教授自2012年加入北京大学国际法学院，曾任教法律检索相关课程，同时，作为资深的图书馆数据与检索方面的专家，他以自己的前沿的专业知识支持STL的课程发展及图书馆工作。Duncan Alford教授与世长辞，我们深表沉痛与惋惜。
Duncan Alford教授的追悼会已于于美国时间2023年2月23日下午1点在Shandon Presbyterian Church, 607 Woodrow Street, Columbia SC举行。
Professor Duncan Earl Alford, former Consulting Director of the Library and Associate Dean for Information Services at Peking University School of Transnational Law (“STL”) passed away at the age of 59 on February 18th, 2023.
Duncan Alford served as Consulting Director of the Library and Associate Dean for Information Services at STL and Associate Dean for the Law Library and a full Professor of Law at the University of South Carolina School of Law. He studied at the University of Virginia and the University of South Carolina and earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
He has served as Law Clerk to Chief Justice Burley Mitchell of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, as a shareholder in a law firm, as a reference librarian at Columbia University, law librarian and European Union specialist at Princeton University, as head of reference and adjunct professor at Georgetown University, and as the founding Associate Dean for Library and Information Services at the Charlotte School of Law. He was a scholar of legal research, and he was the author of Teaching Legal Research.
STL is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Professor Duncan Alford, who is always good friend and supporter of STL. The thoughts of us all go to his beloved family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
